I watched Brave, and it freaked me out. Like, I was genuinely scared. There was a darkness in it that I felt was not meant for tois, bana.
Aside from the untrue GE rating…the graphics were good. I liked the accents (who doesn’t like Scots? And they paid tribute to Braveheart. You can’t not like that either), I liked the characters, and the visual effects were very well done. I also liked that the whole hero-heroine Disney trend was not a cliche. So glad I didn’t watch it in a cinema. I would’ve been climbing up the walls and shii. I give it a 3 out of 5.

I'd give it a 2/5. The graphics & Scottish accent were good but that's where it ends. The story could have been so much better but it wasn't.

yeah…this fell short somewhere…like they didn't think out there enough…it was too….safe…but the graphics were awesome. That hair..and that sequence with the released arrow. Too lovely!!!!
In almost related news, do you prefer watching film adaptations or reading source books before they're made into films. There are a few book adaptations coming out almost at the same time. Life of Pi, Anna Karenina, World War Z and Les Miserables. All books in my list. All books I haven't read yet. But they all look to be awesome..except Anna Karenina which I haven't seen the trailer for but it's got Keira Knightley who I could stare at all day. All week, truth be told.
We so do not have the same taste in women. it's sad, really. *sigh* But we DO have the same taste in hair. LOL. This movie for me was CREEPY, not SAFE. Will-o-the-wsps? That IS a bit out there. Aki Disney and witchcraft. Uchawi nayo?
I like books done well, which happens so rarely. I didn't like Life of Pi enough to finish it, but I did like Anna Karenina, which I WILL watch (#teamJUDE). Haven't read World War Z but I watched the Gerard Depardieu (who I love) version of Les Miserables, so I hope whatever they're doing will rock…
Sacrilege! I'm loving Life of Pi. I'm almost through. I lent out my first copy about 5 years ago and never got it back. Then lent out another copy a year ago and it's yet to come back (yeah, I learn slow). No way I'm lending out this copy till I'm done…and maybe not even then. Weird thing is that I like it more than I did when I tried it out the first time those 5 years ago. Maybe you should give it another shot….word on Les Miserables is that it is really really good
I'm a paid-up student of the Kids Stories Are Too Sanitized Nowadays School of Thought so I had no problem with the will-o'-the-wisps. If anything, I quite liked how they handled the mystic element. The wisps and stone circles and witch weren't clear-cut good or evil, just… other. Results entirely dependent on user. Like alcohol, y'know? ^_^
But the story disappointed me a wee bit. With two strong female leads, I was really rooting for a water-tight (or plothole-tight) plot, but it wasn't. Sigh.
Ah well. At least we'll always have Merida's gorgeous hair and accent. And the lovely gaelic-y soundtrack.
ok, i haven't seen it but i'm intrigued that it scared you. (i haven't been scared by animation since the fat controller yelled at thomas for being late to the station!)

My fave film reviewer says Anna Karenina is shit. Pretty but shit nonetheless so that book goes to the back of the line. Remembered 'the hobbit' comes out next month so that comes up.
I. Can't. Wait. I don't think Orlando Bloom should be in that movie though. Seeing as…Legolas wasn't in the book. But whatever. I'll still watch it and allow him to be in it (because I have control over such things) because it's one of the few movies I think he's any good in. Nice, for a washed up actor.

How exactly are they going to make the hobbit a trilogy. It's smaller than any of the three LOTR books. It's a simple straightforward story. Leave home-kerfuffle with trolls-kerfuffle with the goblins-rest at Elrond's-kerfuffle with spiders-kerfuffle with the elves-rest at the lakemen-kerfuffle with dragon-big kerfuffle with the 5 armies-go home. Where's the trilogy in that
